This project is an ongoing seat design for Team Arrow Racing Association. Team Arrow build Solar Racing Vehicles to challenge efficiency and current engineering and design practices. I conducted a research dissertation on the driver ergonomics of a solar racing vehicle. The research has formed the basis of the design that will be delivered for the 2021 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge.

TeamArrow Racing Association is the premier Australian Solar Racing Team, who have participated in Bridgestone World Solar Challenge for over a decade. The Bridgestone World Solar Challenge is a Race that takes place in the Australian Desert from Darwin to Adelaide. As a member of this team, I have conducting a literature review to aid the design of a new driver’s seat. This seat will be designed alongside the entire vehicle which is currently commencing the design phase April 2020. This vehicle will be set to race in the BWSC in October 2021.

Manifest Needs
The research was analysed in two parts. The first analyzed the needs the participants of the research, stakeholders, and drivers presented themselves.
Latent Needs
The second analysis was understanding the needs that the user did not present as a need themself but can be deduced from issues they brought up.
In-depth research was conducted with the drivers of the vehicle and other stakeholders to understand the conditions, activities, and equipment involved in driving the vehicle.
